Amabie? / アマビエ?
Updated: May 25
In spite of the many news articles published since this epidemic has started, not many people seem to know about Amabie. I was surprised! Even the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare are using her image to encourage people to fight the covid-19 virus. Perhaps it is only targeted towards children? That would make sense given its... artistic level? But I have also seen several depictions of her on cafe walls (when getting take out) or by instagram artists.

She looks strange with her beaked mouth, scaly body, and three legs, but somehow she has comforted us. Maybe her strangeness has made it easier for people to attempt reproduction of her image and allowed for some sort of uniform hope that we can overcome the corona virus together.
